Ashland, Ohio

Samaritan Regional Hospital
Emergency Department

Challenge:

The city of Ashland had only one hospital which was over utilized and in need of facility upgrades. It was for this purpose that Trinity was commissioned to provide a capital development plan which assessed both market demand and services demand.

Services:

Market Analysis, Operational Analysis, Services Demand Assessment, Capital Development Planning, Programming and Space Planning, Healthcare Architecture and Interior Design.

Outcomes:

Trinity’s analysis identified a need to expand and modernize the Emergency Department and led design efforts to create an addition which expanded the department by 9,000 sf, while renovating 20,000 sf.

Our team developed a design that integrated the expanded ED with the hospital’s existing CT and radiographic rooms to avoid the cost of duplicating these facilities. A new circular entrance created easy public access and allowed department recognition from the road. Two main circulation arteries intersect under a large skylight bringing natural illumination into the clinical spaces, creating a pleasant environment for both staff and patients.  The new department provides state of the art treatment areas for OB/GYN, ENT, and Psychiatric evaluation.
