UPMC Susquehanna
Hillman Cancer Center

Challenge:

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center provides the highest level of clinical care to more than 74,000 people each year throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and in Ireland, Italy and Singapore. With projected regional program growth and a lacking service capacity for radiation and private infusion treatment spaces, UPMC Susquehanna Divine Providence Hospital needed to expand its outpatient oncology facility and modernize the existing space.

Outcome:

To promote a welcoming community presence, the design creates an inviting single entrance and lobby for customer convenience, improves way-finding and strengthens the Hillman Cancer Center brand identity. A new and enhanced, patient-focused care giving environment optimizes patient flow within open, airy and comfortable spaces with views onto surrounding healing gardens. A special feature of this project is the ground floor sloped garden along the primary exterior wall of the interior space with natural light filled garden views for patients, families, clinical staff and caregivers.

Services:

Trinity provided a feasibility study, facility assessment, architecture and interior design services. The facility program and footprint were carefully designed to maximize functionality. An efficient use of space creates a “right-sized” facility to support the mission and goals of UPMC Susquehanna and the Hillman Cancer Center to enhance the highest quality of cancer care services to the community and region.
